Why I Created AirVoucher: The Story Behind the Idea

I’m Alex, one of the founders of AirVoucher, and I want to tell you directly, briefly, and honestly why we created this platform — and why we believe in it so strongly.

It all started simply: I was living in Bucharest and noticed how many tourists came and went without ever discovering the best parts of the city. They stayed in Airbnbs, came in, went out, but rarely ended up in the great local restaurants, cool bars, or the spots that are truly worth visiting. Not because they didn’t want to — but because they just didn’t know about them.

A Visible Problem: No Real Connection

If you stay in a big hotel, you have brochures, receptionists, and recommendations. But in an Airbnb? Most of the time — nothing. A self check-in, maybe a message on WhatsApp, and that’s it. Tourists are left on their own. So what do they do? They search Google or maps and end up in the same crowded, overpriced tourist traps.

At the same time, I had friends running local businesses — some owned coffee shops, others restaurants or spas — and they all complained about how hard it was to attract new customers. “Only locals come in. Tourists don’t even know we exist,” they told me again and again.

That’s when the idea clicked.

The Solution? A Visible Bridge Between Tourists and Local Businesses

I wanted to build something simple, visible, and effective. That’s how AirVoucher was born. A system where we place a QR code display inside every partner apartment, so guests see it as soon as they walk in. They scan it and instantly discover exclusive local offers — from 10% off lunch to 1+1 cocktails, museum tickets, or free gym sessions.

• Tourists are happy — they find good deals and great spots with zero hassle.

• Local businesses are happy — they get new customers without expensive ads.

• Airbnb hosts are happy — they offer a better experience and get better reviews.

Why It Works?

Because it’s not rocket science. We don’t ask for anything complicated.

The display is FREE and delivered directly.

• The local business offers a simple perk — 5%, 10%, or maybe a free coffee.

Tourists get exactly what they need: where to go and why it’s worth it.

We started in Bucharest, but we want to take this across Romania.

What’s Next?

We already have over 80 partner apartments, and more businesses join every day. The feedback has been incredible — people really use the QR code, discover new places, and come back with a smile.

This is just the beginning.

AirVoucher isn’t just a platform — it’s a bridge between two worlds that needed each other.

And if you have an Airbnb or a local business in Bucharest, I really invite you to try it. The first month is free. Nothing to lose. Just tourists to gain.
